Background Heading
About Us - The Harpo Group
The company was established in 1897 when the entrepreneurial Stock family from Trieste started producing and exporting Portland cement globally.
The production of alumina cement started in 1926 at the Pola plant. Since then, the company has continued to market this type of cement through its aluminous cement.
1960-1980
In the ‘60s, the company strengthened its presence in the construction market by building the Trieste plant, where exterior finishes are also produced.
1980
In the early ‘80s, at a trade fair in the USA, the company’s owners discovered the innovative Enkadrain drainage geocomposite and decided to sell it in Italy. This marked the birth of the geotechnical division, which soon expanded its range of products and solutions in the geosynthetics sector and civil and environmental engineering.
1999
In 1999, Harpo spa was founded through the merger of Seic spa and Sandtex spa.
2001
In 2001, the company began importing waterproofing systems, primarily for roofing. In 2003, recognizing the imminent climate change and the need to increase greenery, especially in urban areas, it seized the opportunity to use waterproofing systems as a foundation for creating green roof systems. This led to the establishment of the green roof division, which is now a national market leader.
Today, thanks to its research and development activities, Harpo remains constantly at the forefront, pursuing innovation while staying firmly rooted in tradition.
Harpo alluminoso
The company was founded on the production and sale of cements and has been continuing the commercialization of calcium aluminate cement for almost a century. This essential raw material is used in the fields of construction, refractory industry, and construction chemicals. In addition to the historic Istra 40 and Istra 50, the innovative Hypercem was introduced in 2020, opening up new frontiers of application.
Harpo seic
Under the brand name seic, Harpo spa was one of the first companies to introduce geosynthetic products to Italy. Since 1980, it has contributed to the introduction and development of new technologies, offering high-quality materials for projects in civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering.
Due to its geological makeup, Italy’s landscape is naturally prone to instability. This is further compounded by human-induced disruption from poor environmental resource management.
The range of solutions from the seic geotechnical division in steep slope reinforcement and hydraulic engineering provides the necessary design tools with techniques that integrate into the natural system, replacing “traditional” methods with high environmental impact.
In road design, the use of our materials allows for techniques that mitigate the environmental impact of constructions, both by better integrating them into the landscape and by helping reduce the depletion of natural resources. Examples include the construction of reinforced earth retaining walls with vegetated facings instead of concrete, saving quarry aggregates by incorporating subfoundation reinforcements that reduce the thickness of the road base structure, and creating drainage systems with geocomposites. These are just a few examples of the significant added value associated with the solutions we are able to offer.
Our high-quality, highly reliable products include drainage geocomposites, geogrids and geonets, geotextiles, geomembranes, geomats, biomats and innovative materials such as cement-based GCCM geocomposites, materials of the highest quality and high reliability, which, through technical and creative solutions, find application in the various fields of slope stabilization, soil defense, hydraulic works, road design and in systems for all phases of landfill construction, cultivation and closure, with technical solutions targeted to specific issues.
Harpo verdepensile
The green roof division was born from Harpo spa’s strong technical expertise, allowing us to develop a wide range of systems and technologies for green roofs and roof gardens. Additionally, we offer an extensive range of accessories to address the most challenging specific technical details, with particular attention to maintenance safety devices.
The green roofs line offers three green roof systems, each with different characteristics based on application and performance requirements: extensive, light intensive, and intensive.
Through the experience gained over the years and the results obtained from research conducted at Italian research institutes, Harpo green roof is now able to offer technologies and systems designed to better suit our Mediterranean climate.
The waterproofing line distributes products and systems for waterproofing in both civil and industrial construction.
Our products are intended for the following sectors: industrial warehouses, shopping centers, residential buildings, roof gardens, slabs and foundations, and tanks and reservoirs.
The variety of PVC synthetic membranes, HarpoPlan, integrated with complementary technologies, allows us to tailor the most reliable technical solution to best meet different design requirements.
