Extensive sedum

THIS IS A WIDELY USED SYSTEM FOR THE CREATION ON ROOFS OF A RELATIVELY GARDEN OR OTHER NATURAL SPACE WITH A PLEASANT EXTENSIVE APPEARANCE, WITH LOW WEIGHT AND PRICE. IN THIS CASE, THE GREEN ROOF SYSTEM SERVES THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS:

  • PROVIDE A SPACE IF CLEVERLY DESIGNED

  • ALLOW FOR GOOD NATURALISTIC AND LANDSCAPE INTEGRATION

  • EXTEND WATERPROOFING LIFESPAN

  • CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY, THROUGH SUBSTRATE THICKNESS, TO PASSIVE COOLING OF THE BUILDING DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS AND IMPROVING WINTER INSULATION

  • ASSUME A KEY ROLE IN RESTORING THE WATER CYCLE

HARPO LOW GROWING EXTENSIVE SEDUM SYSTEM FEATURES

The Harpo Verdepensile low growing extensive sedum system adheres to the UNI 11235:2015 standard, ensuring and exceeding the minimum characteristics for both all individual elements and system performance. The main characteristics of the system are as follows:

  • Versatile and lightweight: usually the thickness of the system varies from 11 cm for the BAS line to 30 cm for the RIC line. In both cases, the maximum retention weight of the lower thickness system starts from 295 kg/sqm.
  • Aesthetic value: low growing, evergreen, sedum plants of pleasant aesthetic value are used in these systems. Those resistant to frost and drought should be chosen, allowing for impactful effects and compositions. Often this type is used in conjunction with or complementing extensive perennial systems to increase biodiversity and consequently the resilience of the system.
  • Usability: limited, the morphology of these plants lends itself poorly to unrestricted use, which therefore requires the creation of integrated walkways.
  • Management costs: maintenance is low, with two to three interventions per year, mainly to remove weeds and replace some deadfall. Pruning is generally not necessary.
  • Irrigation: the vegetation has excellent drought resistance and good regermination capacity, but in the Mediterranean climate it must be irrigated frequently.
  • Implementation costs: this solution is particularly economical in terms of the system. The total cost is functional to the choice of plants that are transplanted from pots. It turns out to be convenient in roofs of limited size.
  • Thermal resistance: the system contributes to energy savings with a thermal resistance that varies depending on the water content.
  • Runoff coefficient: specific values can be provided upon request based on studies conducted with the University of Genoa and in our laboratory.
