HARPO VERDEPENSILE SYSTEM

Perennial extensive and shrub intensive

The Argentario Golf Resort & SPA was redeveloped, upgraded and expanded in 2012. The design ethos of the intervention is inspired by the pursuit of marked architectural and compositional quality while respecting the environmental merits of the area.

The project’s distinctive features include the integration of building volumes with the site’s topography to minimize visual and physical impact on the local flora and fauna.

Consequently, the buildings were designed to fit within the natural contours, and green roofs were installed to further blend them into the surrounding environment.

The green roof system, in line with the design philosophy of using environmentally friendly materials and technologies in line with the principles of bioarchitecture, in addition to marking an improvement from the point of view of indoor climatic comfort of the environments, is a key point for the insertion of ecological connection corridors, water regulation of some foothills, and the creation of permanent water basins.

The tree species chosen in the green roof system compositions are native ones, that is, native tree and shrub species and minor fruit trees characteristic of the Maremma coastal strip: jujube, peraster, dogwood and strawberry tree. In some cases, trees present on site have been uprooted moved and replanted.
