Porto Piccolo - Sistiana (TS)

A technological green roof system as a means of connection

A GREEN ROOF SYSTEM COVERING OVER 20,000 SQUARE METERS WAS CREATED USING EXTENSIVE NATURAL MEADOW AND LIGHT INTENSIVE SYSTEMS WITH A TECHNOGENIC TERRAMEDITERRANEA MINERAL SUBSTRATE KNOWN FOR ITS STABLE STRUCTURE, HIGH PERMEABILITY, OXYGENATION, AND DRAINAGE

HARPO VERDEPENSILE SYSTEM

Light intensive, shrubs and extensive natural grassland

The landscape redevelopment project for Porto Piccolo Sistiana aimed to integrate the architectural design with the surrounding environment. The design concept is based on recovering the naturalness of the former quarry context and identifying a series of recurring landscape themes and elements in the surrounding naturalistic fabric: the karst landscape, the cliffs, the Rilke trail.

A meticulous and skillful intervention transformed each small space through a gradual and natural ‘green colonization’ where nature, in time, will embrace everything.

Extensive natural meadow and light intensive systems with Terramediterranea technogenic substrate were installed on a surface of 20,000 square meters.

The primary objective of the project was to integrate and connect the intervention area with the surrounding environmental context. An excellent result was therefore obtained thanks to the careful design of the landscape and open spaces that allowed the growth of vegetation that was perfectly compatible with local native species through the identification of suitable substrate thicknesses.
