The Varignana Resort is located in the hilly landscape surrounding Bologna, in Varignana, a small hamlet in the municipality of Castel San Pietro Terme, around the evocative 18th-century villa of the Bentivoglio family, an artifact that testifies to its history as a holiday residence.
The project aims to increase the resort’s accommodation offerings in the inclusion of 44 new suites. The design focused on integrating the new building volumes into the existing architecture, utilizing cutting-edge technologies, including harpo verdepensile systems, to enhance the surrounding environment.
The natural context is characterized by olive groves, vineyards, plowed fields, wooded areas and gullies. The design responded to the site’s topography with three separate buildings at different levels, connected by two observation points offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, a sort of appetizer of the scenic beauty that resort users can enjoy during their stay.
The design of the greenery follows the contour lines, along them we have homogeneous essences and the hanging greenery takes a key role in the project. In the roofs we find parallel bands of helichrysum, ivy, lonicera and mesembriantermo. In the perception of the complex it enhances the use of greenery, drawing a new image of the slope: at one with the building.
